Multipolarity, cyber threats and systemic rivalry, particularly with China, are on the rise. This is impacting science and research. Participating in a Conference panel entitled "Conversation on Research Security – Knowledge First, Security Second? International Research Collaboration in a Multipolar World", Minister Stark-Watzinger emphasized that the current political situation required a reassessment of the topic of research security. We and the partners who share our values must refocus our attention, said the Minister. One of her points was the strict separation of civilian and military research in Germany, which she believes needs to be reconsidered.

The Munich Security Conference is the world's leading forum for debating international security policy. The 60th MSC took place on 16-18 February 2024.
